Low Cost Spay/Neuter Vouchers Available

Beginning in January 2008, the Beartooth Humane Alliance will once again provide vouchers to qualified Carbon County residents for low-cost spay-neuter services for dogs and cats. The program aims to help reduce pet overpopulation by providing pet sterilization services to county residents who cannot afford the procedure for their pets, such as families with limited incomes, senior citizens on fixed incomes, and hardship situations.

The vouchers will be honored at Grizzly Peak Animal Hospital (Red Lodge), Bridger Veterinary Clinic (Bridger), and Red Lodge Veterinary Clinic (Red Lodge) beginning January 1 until available funding is exhausted.  Residents will make a co-payment of $5 for a male cat, $25 for a female cat, $30 for a male dog, and $40 - $50 for a female dog (depending on the dog’s weight).  The vouchers are for pets -- no feral cats, please.

If you are in a low-income situation and wish to have your pet sterilized, you can obtain a voucher application by calling 672-6960 or by filling out the application and mailing it with your co-payment to BHA. When your application is approved, BHA will mail you a voucher with program details. See our information sheet for more details, including qualification criteria.

When you receive your voucher, you can make an appointment for surgery with any of the three vet offices listed above. You will present the voucher to the clinic at the time of surgery. Each voucher is good for one routine spay-neuter surgical procedure. Any surgical complications or other services are not covered by the voucher.

There is limited funding for the vouchers. So please don’t delay – spay or neuter your pet today! If you have questions, please call 672-6960.

BHA Helps Pets of Domestic Violence Survivors

In a newly formed collaboration between BHA and Domestic and Sexual Violence Services of Carbon County (DSVS), survivors of violence can now escape from their abusers with their pet(s).  BHA has made arrangements with confidential foster homes to temporarily care for these pets, many of which have been abused themselves, while the survivor makes new living arrangements.

In many instances, survivors of abuse refuse to leave their batterers for fear of retribution against their pets.  This new service offers peace of mind to the survivor while he/she seeks safety.

If you know anyone that may benefit from this service or for more information, please call DSVS at 446-2296 or Diane Zook at 672-6960.
