NEW SCHOLARSHIP FOR ANIMAL-RELATED EDUCATION

If you’re graduating from a Carbon County high school, and you’d like to work with companion or service animals, Beartooth Humane Alliance (BHA) has a scholarship opportunity for you.

The new BHA Scholarship Fund will annually make an award of up to $2,500 to a graduate pursuing a career that will better the lives of companion and/or service animals. Examples are veterinary medicine, working with animals in humanitarian efforts such as search and rescue, managing animal shelters and animal welfare programs, working with military or police dogs, and training service animals for people with disabilities.

You are eligible to apply for a BHA scholarship if (1) you graduated from a Carbon County high school last year or will graduate this year, (2) you will attend a regionally or nationally accredited U.S. post-secondary educational institution, and (3) your study program will prepare you for a career that promotes good lives for companion and/or service animals, like the career examples listed above.

To apply, visit the administrator or counselor who manages scholarships at your high school and ask for the BHA Scholarship Fund application package. Complete the application, add the attachments requested, and submit your completed package to the administrator or counselor NO LATER THAN March 10, 2015.

Each Carbon County high school will choose one applicant to submit to the Red Lodge Public School Foundation (RLPSF) by March 31. The RLPSF Scholarship Committee will then choose the recipient of the award. BHA may award more than one scholarship if there are two or more equally qualified applicants. If you receive a scholarship, you may apply again in the following years.

The BHA Scholarship is funded by donor-restricted contributions not available for any other BHA programs. Donations to BHA for its other programs will not be used for the scholarship.

“We’re dedicated to improving the quality of life for companion animals, and we see first-hand how animals can better the lives of people in so many different circumstances,” said Diane Zook, BHA President. “We’re pleased to invest in the education of young people who want to pursue careers in these fields.”

If you have questions about the BHA Scholarship, please check with the counselor or administrator who manages scholarships at your high school, or contact BHA at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
